The Conjuring

The opening scene of this film focuses on a pair of nurses who are being haunted by a ghost that inhabits a doll. James Wan uses close-ups of the doll to unsettle and continues to create tension by subverting common supernatural horror tropes.

Saw

A film that started one of horror cinema’s most successful franchises. One of the most iconic aspects of the film is its use of dolls. The serial killer at the heart of the film often uses a doll to disguise his appearance. Wan uses the imagery of the doll to intensify the threat level.
